I am not sure Geneva is a place that I have chosen. This thought struck me the day I read on my new Swiss passport: “Origin: Geneva”. It felt like someone wanted to steal the treasures of my past…
My relationship to Geneva is complicated. It’s about where I belong. Although the history of my family is deeply connected to Switzerland and my career is anchored in Geneva, I have never felt truly accepted here, yet I have chosen to stay.
Ask any photographer and he will tell you that it is often difficult to photograph the place you live in. I think this is what emanates from this series. My Geneva is about wandering, wishing and wanting. It is about comfort and pain; calm and anger; boringness and beauty. It is a place I enjoy leaving and that I equally hate to like.
