A japanese noren is a piece of fabric that is hung in doorways, on windows or on walls. They are traditionally used in shops and restaurants as a decorative entry. These noren, hung from restaurants in the historical neighbourhood of Gion in Kyoto, known as the area where Geisha and Maiko live.
Noren are open and closed at the same time. They are a fine link between the outside and the inside and they invite as well as they obfuscate. While I was wandering through the alleys of Gion, these dividers made my imagination wander with me. What happens behind them? What do they hide and what do they show? Are there stories in my head? Or are they happening as I think?
